13 Rules of Basketball
 

13 Rules of Basketball are the original 13 rules back in 1893.

1. The ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands.

2. The ball may be batted in any direction with one or both hands, but never with the fist.

3. A player cannot run with the ball. The player must throw it from the spot on which he catches it, allowance to be made for a man runningat good speed.

4. The ball must be held by the hands. The arms or body must not be used for holding it.

5. No Shouldering, holding, pushing, striking or tripping in any way of an opponent. The first infringement of thisrule by any person shall count as a foul; the second shall disqualify him untill the next goal is made or, if there was evident intent to injure the person, for the whole game. No substitution shall be allowed.

6. A foul is striking at the ball with the fist, violations of rules 3 and 4 and such as described in rule 5.

The Real National Football League
 
BEFORE The NFL as we know it now, the American Football League was a professional football league that operated from 1960 to1969, when it merged with the National Football League. The AFL operated in competition with the National Football League. Viewed as inferior, the AFL attracted top talent from colleges and the NFL by the mid 60s. In its first year ,1960, the AFL signed half of the NFL's first round draft choices, including Billy Cannon and Johnny Robinson and Ron Mix. The two leagues merged in 1970. During its first two years of existence the AFL won two upset victories over the NFL in Superbowls III & IV One of the biggest upsets in all of Sports history was the New York Jets win over the Baltimore Colts . All 10 of the AFL teams joined the NFL. Since then the NFL is grown stronger and more popular than ever.

The " Miracle on Ice". The medal-round in men's ice hockey during the 1980 Olympic Winter Games. A team of amateur & collegiate players from the United Sates with coach Herb Brooks, defeated the Soviet Union, probably the best hockey team in the World 4-3. The U.S. went on to win the Gold medal by defeating Finland 4-2 .
The United Sates team was seeded 7th of the 12 teams that qualified for the Lake Placid Olympics. The Soviet Union was favored. They were led by legendary players such as Boris Mikhailov & Vladislav Tretiak. In exhibitions that year, Soviet clubs went 5-3-1 against NHL Teams. Earlier the two teams met for an exhibition match at Madison Square Garden. The Soviet Union won 10-3.
The U.S. reeled off wins to go 4-0-1 & advance to the medal roundalong with Sweden. The Soviets stormed thru their opposition undefeated knocking off Japan 16-0, the Netherlands 17-4 , & Poland 8-1. Thus the Soviets and Finland advanced from their group. The USSR rested most of its best players & let them study the plays. Of course U. S coach Herb Brooks continued histough style, hard play practices.
